A circular walk from Stone house lane over Bulkeley hill, along Raw Head, returning in a figure of eight via Copper mine lane and around the other side of Bulkeley hill. A walk in the Cheshire countryside with fine views on a clear day. Mostly woodland, covering parts of the sandstone trail with some great caves to be found and explored. The walk can be cut short or completed in sections. Gates, mud, footpaths, steps, and livestock to be expected.

Firstly I would like to introduce myself! My name is Josie, I am a professional Cheshire based family portrait photographer and this is my dog, Holly! We're always getting out and about all over Cheshire and North Wales, walking and discovering great new photoshoot spots. We'd love to share some of our adventures and favorite local walks with you so that hopefully you can get out and about keeping active with your loved ones and discover some of the most beautiful places our countryside has to offer.
Yesterday we set out to one of our favorite local spots for an afternoon walk near Malpas. There are so many footpaths to explore in this area with many hidden gems along the way! To start our walk we parked up along stone house lane heading through the kissing gate, taking a left through the woodland covering Bulkeley hill.

Upon reaching the top of the hill we cut across a field which led us to copper mine lane where a large sign is displayed with information on the sandstone trail. (There is also parking available here if you would like to shorten the walk.) From here we followed the Sandstone trail in a loop around Raw Head. Please be careful if walking with young children and dogs as there are a few sheer banks and cliff edges, livestock is also present, so some areas may ask that dogs can be kept on the lead. There are also plenty of caves to explore along the hill which can be great fun with the family. For more information on the caves please follow the link below!
Autumn is one of Holly's most favorite time of year! As there are plenty of blackberries to stop and snack on, on route!
The loop around Raw Head will eventually lead back through the woods alongside a farm. You will get to a junction, where you will break away from the Sandstone trail and take the small path through the woodland looping you back around to copper mine lane.
Head up copper mine lane back to the sandstone trail information sign. From here, head back across the path through the field signposted Bulkeley hill. Take a left once arrived at the woodland, proceeding over the top of Buckley hill to the viewpoint.
From the top of the hill, continue on the main left path this will lead you along the ridge of Bulkeley hill, eventually leading you to a small house. ( There's a bench with a view. A great spot for a cuppa.) Take the right-hand path leading you down a steep hill next to the house. At the bottom of the hill, you will find a gate on your right taking you through the woodland leading you back to the car!

No Sunday walk is complete without a nice cold pint in the pub (or gin and tonic in my case). So why not stop off at The Bickerton Poacher just 2 minutes down the road for a drink or bite to eat for a satisfactory end to the day!
